
Member Spotlight: Jeromy Straub
Jeromy started on the department in 1991 as a Junior FF. In 1995 received his 36hr FF card. Through the years advancing his skills, Jeromy received his Level 2 FF in 2003, and Advanced EMT in 2004. Jeromy is also an EVOC Instructor, Fire/EMS Instructor, Fire Inspector, and Hazmat technician.
Jeromy worked for the Geauga County Sheriffs’ office from 2000-2004 as a first responder. He was also a supervisor of police/security/EMS operations at Funtime USA from 2001-2004 and worked for Samaritan Care Ambulance for 1 year. Jeromy now owns his own business, and is part time for Rittman. He gives many hours back to his community volunteering his time.
Jeromy states he joined the Fire Department looking for a place to belong/become a family. “This department filled that hole in my life.” His advice for anyone wanting to join the fire service, “It is a lifestyle change that requires understanding from family members. It’s a commitment.”
Jeromy enjoys reading, studying history, and woodworking in his free time, but at the end of they day, he loves to play with his two puppies.
Jeromy’s wife, Rachel, is also a member of the Rittman Fire Department, and gave him 3 step sons: Austin, Jacob and Wyatt. He also has a daughter and 4-year-old grandchild.
